The Most Beautiful Drives in the US, According to Truckers

Anyone who has ever driven a vehicle for many, many miles across this huge country and its 4 million-plus miles of highways and byways eventually develops a fondness for certain drives based on mere appearance alone.

You might be an ocean lover, dig those pretty panoramas of pastel-blue and green water or favor the magnificent mountains.

Whether it be the famous Seven Mile Bridge and the Florida Keys or the Sierra Nevada, the oncoming Lake Tahoe, or the Dr. Seussian painted hills of popular eastern Oregon, we all have our personal favorites. What, though, are the most popular or most beautiful drives in the United States.? We went online to learn what long-haul truckers and other experienced drivers had to say on the subject.

These highway veterans mentioned their own favorite landscapes, from the famous California coast to the rolling Rocky Mountain roads. Here is where you should head when you want to experience the most beautiful drives in all of America.

1 . Alaska and The California Coast

One fave focuses on the Seward Highway in Alaska. It evokes familiar feeling like one might have taking the iconic route along the California Coastline. It just feels like America or certainly the one we often see in the movies.

Drive from Anchorage, Alaska to Seward and you will see some of the most beautiful mountains in the entire country. Furthermore, the countryside is full on animal life and eventually, you’ll see some great beaches too. It take approximately two and a half hours to drive this route.

Another drive that tied with the above route is driving north through the state of California. Highway 101 is not only famous but is a popular, iconic drive. It’s another motion picture ride. Yet another winner here would be to take Highway 1 up the scenic Pacific Coast. It’s mile after mile of noteworthy views. Highlights include the Big Sur area and the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge.

2.Appalachia south to the Gulf of Mexico

One truck driver enjoyed a one-day layover in Central Park on his way to Long Island. Apparently, he like many other folks have put seeing Central Park in Manhattan, New York City, New York on their list of places to see before they kick the bucket. In 72 hours though you can see Central Park and drive down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Kick back and enjoy a dip after taking in all the noteworthy scenery. The numerous contrasts are said to be quite memorable and while there are some reportedly dull sections it is the different changes that make the trip worthwhile. All it takes is one weekend really.

3The San Juan Byway in Colorado

If you’re looking for a beautiful drive then head for Colorado. More specifically, hit the popular San Juan Byway. Driving experts say that you are looking at an entire day of driving but you will not be bored. Some say you won’t even want to stop.

This part of the country features some beautiful landscapes. The transition from lush green to desert is noteworthy.

Don’t miss seeing the snow-capped mountain peaks either. It’s like a visual travelogue. Visit some of the small mountain towns as you go too. The roads do sometimes wind but just take your time and drive carefully and you will enjoy it.

4.70 through Colorado and Utah in the summer

Try taking I-70 into Utah and then into Colorado. Veterans of the road will confirm that you will see some of the most breathtaking rock formations and high desert areas that cannot be found anywhere else. It is especially beautiful during the summer months. Those who’ve been there say it is a drive everyone interested in scenic drives should experience.

Some say that it’s also a matter of what you are normally used to as well.

Additionally, some say if you live in a place such as the desert of Phoenix, Arizona you could very well take some things for granted. Someone who lives in the desert doesn’t get to drive through such rural areas like in Iowa. They don’t see farm fields. If you’ve never seen that you would enjoy seeing the healthy green landscape one sees crossing the I-90 in South Dakota driving towards the famous Black Hills.

5.The Lush Landscapes of West Virginia

Other experienced road warriors look to the lush landscapes of the state of West Virginia. For example, if you are taking a drive on I-64 in West Virginia you will eventually reach a specific mile marker where you suddenly come upon valleys that actually resemble huge paintings of natural landscapes.

The winter snow can also be exceptionally beautiful when seen through the eyes of someone from a place such as Florida although naturally, not everyone enjoys actually driving through it.

6.Driving west from Montana to Idaho

Finally, there are some memorable views going from Montana to Idaho as well. The two-lane routes from the one state to the other is reported to be quite beautiful. This particular drive is highlighted by what appears to be endless green thanks to the multiple meadows, mountain peaks, and national forests.

Veterans of this trek confirm that it all seems to go on forever there. Both the sky and the sun take on an infinite quality and everything one sees is exceptionally beautiful. Depending on when you go even the drive itself takes on a peaceful quality.

Those who have been there note that the 700 miles of blacktop can be the most peaceful in the country. Some claim that even though you are driving through it in a car or truck you are still apt to get a vibe that you are actually a part of the nature that surrounds you.

So get your car inspected and fill up your gas tank. Grab your snacks and beverages too. Load up your car or truck and head out on the highway to experience these beautiful drives as others have before you and let us know about your experiences out on the road.
